Bruno studied history at university, with a bias towards medieval, thanks to the indoctrination of his superb history teachers at school, Dr Peter Southern and David Cook. A "minor" in economics did not stimulate an interest in the mathematical models on which academic economics seemed to be based. Quite unsuited to academic work, he left with a mediocre degree, but a nascent interest in social and economic history.
